Sacraments

New Parishioners: Please register at the Rectory. Ordinarily, new Parishioners should live within the geographical boundaries established by the Diocese of Metuchen. Also, as a member of our Parish Community, please use the Parish  Envelopes or Faith Direct (online weekly offerings). This is our means of identifying you as an active Parishioner. It is also important for testimonial letters regarding sponsorship for the Sacraments.

Baptisms: A special relationship exists between Godparents and the Baptized. The Church calls Godparents, as practicing Catholics, to be living examples of Christ-centered life today. Sponsor letters for all Godparents should be submitted ASAP-but no later than two weeks before the scheduled Baptism.

Baptisms are held at 12:30 p.m. Registered Parishioners may make arrangements by calling the Rectory during the day.  Parents are expected to attend one Baptismal Preparation Class.

Sponsors and Godparents:  Church law mandates that a sponsor for baptism and confirmation be an active Confirmed  Catholic.  An active Catholic is a parishioner who is registered, attends Mass weekly, contributes to the support of the church, is in a valid Catholic marriage (if married), and leads a life compatible with Church teaching. We can only write letters of eligibility for parishioners who meet these criteria.

Marriages: Couples contemplating this Sacrament must contact the Parish Office at least one year in advance. All couples planning marriage must attend Pre-Cana classes or Engaged Encounter.

Reconciliation/Penance- Individual Confessions are held on Thursdays before Adoration at 4:30 pm,  Saturday 3:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. or by appointment.  Communal Penance Services are held during Lent and Advent with a number of visiting clergy present to assist with individual confessions.

Anointing of the Sick: A communal celebration of the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick is held once a year in the Spring.

Communion for the Sick: Eucharistic Ministers bring Holy Communion to the homebound upon request. For more information please call the Rectory.
